  Cast Stone Columns and Pilasters

TecLite

Our range of columns and pilasters derive from the architectural vocabulary of the ancient world.

A cast stone column will usually have an entablature of some kind to support, for example as part of a portico, temple, pavilion or classical facade.

Haddonstone has an impressive range of cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters which derive from the architectural vocabulary of the ancient world, including Corinthian, Doric, Ionic and Tuscan styles of architecture.

Haddonstone’s columns, which are sometimes referred to as pillars, can be combined with other Haddonstone cast stone architectural elements. Usually with an entablature of some kind to support, cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters from Haddonstone can be used to create porticos, temples, pergola, pavilions and follies.

Many cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters from Haddonstone are available with Corinthian, Doric, Ionic and Tuscan capitals. These all derive from the architectural vocabulary of the ancient world. Although Greek or Roman in origin, columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters in the Haddonstone Collection are often associated with Georgian architecture.

Haddonstone’s cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters are designed to be non structural elements and so are provided with hollow cores. The columns and pillars, if filled with reinforced concrete or used to sleeve a structural steel member, can then be used in structural situations. Haddonstone’s cast stone columns and pillars are supplied in component form and must be erected on suitable foundations designed to suit loadings and ground conditions.

The sections of a Haddonstone column or pillar shaft together with the column capital should be lined with polystyrene or similar to act as an isolating medium when column cores are in-filled with concrete.

Haddonstone strongly recommend that professional advice is taken to ensure that any proposal for porticos, temples, pergola, pavilions and follies is designed to be structurally sound. It is most important to refer to Tech Sheet CAD1 to ensure Haddonstone’s cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters are installed correctly.

Used correctly, Haddonstone’s range of cast stone columns, half columns, pillars and pilasters can recreate the ancient Greek or Roman style of architecture, often with a Georgian twist.
